Jon Strom grew up in Morganton, NC and came to Brevard in 2001 for college where he majored in Environmental Studies.  During his studies he found that many of our environmental problems can be traced back to the way modern man grows food.  He became interested in sustainable agriculture academically at first, and then practically in 2004 when he completed a year long internship at World Hunger Relief in Waco, TX.

He graduated college in 2006 and worked for the NC Department of Juvenile Justice as an outdoor facilitator.  During a goal setting activity on one of his four day shifts, he returned to his interest in farming…he gave his two week notice the next shift.  He started farming as a full-time occupation in 2008.  He fell in love with the work of farming and turned a blind eye to the fact that he had to live in a shed with no water or electricity in order to make the finances of his first season work out.  He met Christina Martin, the founding farmer of Morningside CSA, in 2009 and the two partnered together  for the 2010 Morningside season.  Christina turned the CSA over to Jon the following season.

Jon enjoys spending his free time whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, fly fishing, surfing, and snowboarding.

Kelley Strom grew up on a horse farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. As a small child, she spent some time helping tend a small garden at home.

She first came to Brevard for college, and after graduating, stayed in Western North Carolina working as an outdoor educator. After spending some time in the field of outdoor education, she started considering other meaningful job possibilities. She began to pursue farming by volunteering at some several local farms and gardens.

In 2010, she began working full time at The Lords Acre, a non-profit garden project in Fairview. She worked there first as an intern, then as garden manager in 2011. Those two years of intense gardening experience offered a huge amount of education and inspiration for growing food.

This will be her first year of officially working with Morningside CSA. Kelley loves the feeling of satisfaction after a long day of hard work and watching closely as plants grow. She is particularly excited about growing flowers to sell this year. In her free time, Kelley loves spending time outdoors mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, and snowboarding.
